Electronica project The All Seeing I including Jarvis Cocker (Pulp), Philip Oakey (Human League) and basically DJ Parrot, Honer and DJ Buckel present with Pickled Eggs & Sherbet a lush debut that does not set any remarkable impression in one's brain.
While the album includes two UK hits, "Walk Like a Panther" and trip hop track "Beat Goes On", it does not tower above those two songs that are not that great as well to be honest, at least it is "Beat Goes On" that isn't worth it to be a hit. "Beat Goes On" - as the name already says - presents one permanent drumbeat that does not stop throughout the entire song, covered up by a poor bass line and Tiana Krahn's thin singing, including only one line: "And the beat goes on." Wow.
Most of the tracks sound entirely appropriate for the chosen vocalist. "1st Man in Space" is sung by Philip Oakey and sounds like Human League. Jarvis Cockers performs as well - actually he is the major performer - and all in all the entire album sounds more like a bad copy of Pulp. Instead of exploring new avenues with this project and the three DJs (Parrotm Honer and Buckel) Cocker has stuck with his familiar themes of life and so it is not something that new.
Pickled Eggs & Sherbet has its interesting aspects for sure, and "Walk Like a Panther" is a fine song indeed, but the most part of it is just nondesript.
